Florida CraftArt Members' Show Award

Easily, what I miss the most from my short time living in Florida (besides the mild winters) is regularly visiting Florida CraftArt in St. Petersburg. The lovely staff packs the lovely gallery with fine craft by artisans from all over Florida and across the US. Having relocated to Florida on-the-fly, I felt so lucky to have found an immensely supportive creative community. It was through this organization that I was able to participate in my first outdoor art fair through the Emerging Artist Scholarship at the Florida CraftArt Festival in 2015 (THANKS Y'ALL!). Even though I've moved out of state, I'm grateful to still regularly show my work in the gallery during the holiday season.

This fall, I was honored to be invited to show in the prestigious annual Members' Exhibition, "Contemporary Craft at its Finest", a multi-disciplinary collection of the best recent works by members. And I was especially thrilled to learn I had been awarded third place in the exhibition!

These three pieces are enjoying their stay in the sunshine state.

Romantically bespoke | M+E

M + E are romantics in the truest sense of the word. To celebrate their commitment to each other, they commissioned a pair of original, highly personalized rings.

The honeymooners

Hers is a slim, delicate band, shaped and curved to match the profile of her stunning vintage art-deco engagement ring. The surfaces of the band are engraved in a highly detailed design to create a coordinated set.

His is a svelte rose gold band, rounded with simple lines tracing the edges. Tiny phases of the moon wrap around the inside.

August Pop-up at the Torpedo Factory

Meg by Hand is popping up at the Torpedo Factory for August! A few new styles join tried-and-true favorites in a fresh display. I'll share a studio space with 3 fellow ladysmiths. Visitors to the art center can find us on the first floor in studio 18. I'll be making [customer fav] stacking rings and other styles in the shop section of the space during my month-long stay. Come check it out!

Torpedo Factory

The Torpedo Factory is an Alexandria, Virginia landmark located adjacent to the Potomac River in the historic Old Town district. Originally a top-secret munitions plant known as the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station, constructed in 1918, it was converted into an art center in 1974 and is a thriving center full of working artist studios and galleries. Painters, potters, sculptors, jewelers, printmakers (+ more) have carved out unique spaces to work in and share their craft with visitors daily.

I'm honored to have been juried into the Torpedo Factory Artist Association this year. Working as an artist in this building has been a dream of mine since I was a kid visiting with my family. (I'll share more about this later!) Now as a member, I am eligible to work in and sell my jewelry in the building, with the goal of finding a permanent studio space. This month (August) I've been invited to set up and work in studio 18. I've included some photos of the Factory below. See my August pop-up display here.

His Momma's diamonds

B wanted to give his bride something special on their wedding day. He contacted me with the idea of re-setting his Momma's diamonds from a ring into a pair of earrings. He picked a delicate pearl drop earring design with leaf details. The diamonds sparkle beautifully atop the natural pearls, but they did not outshine the glowing bride on their wedding day! Congratulations B+K!
